Heterogeneous nickel isotope compositions of the terrestrial mantle – Part 2: Mafic lithologies

چکیده
We report stable Ni isotope compositions (?60/58Ni, relative to SRM986) for mafic lavas with a range of ?0.16‰ +0.20‰ (n = 44), similar that peridotite samples. Ocean island basalts (OIB) have been analysed from Iceland 6), the Azores 3), Galápagos Islands 2), and L??ihi, Hawaii 1). Samples (average ?60/58Ni +0.13 ± 0.16‰, 2s, n 7) display greatest in single OIB location this work, +0.01‰ +0.23‰. ?0.10 0.10‰, 2s) ?0.01 0.04‰, are generally isotopically lighter. متن کاملOn the Effect of Planetary Stable Isotope Compositions on Growth and Survival of Terrestrial Organisms
Isotopic compositions of reactants affect the rates of chemical and biochemical reactions. Usually it is assumed that heavy stable isotope enrichment leads to progressively slower reactions. Yet the effect of stable isotopes may be nonlinear, as exemplified by the "isotopic resonance" phenomenon. Since the isotopic compositions of other planets of Solar system, including Mars and Venus, are mar...
متن کاملEvidence of Mafic Volcanic Compositions Associated with Domes in Arcadia
Introduction: Domes and more oblong and irregularly shaped mounds have been described from the Arcadia and Utopia Planitiae regions on Mars [1,2,3]. In [1] it was suggested that the domes in Arcadia were volcanic domes and they were compared to terrestrial volcanic domes with silica contents generally higher than have been associated with known volcanic products on Mars. In [2] it was posited t...
متن کاملCarbon isotope compositions of terrestrial C3 plants as indicators of (paleo)ecology and (paleo)climate.
A broad compilation of modern carbon isotope compositions in all C3 plant types shows a monotonic increase in δ(13)C with decreasing mean annual precipitation (MAP) that differs from previous models. Corrections for temperature, altitude, or latitude are smaller than previously estimated. As corrected for altitude, latitude, and the δ(13)C of atmospheric CO(2), these data permit refined interpr...
